SHK PPR-C pipes from Shreeharikrishna Group replace GI, MS and CPVC pipework for workshops and utility networks. Triple-layer construction — UV-stabilised outer layer, reinforced middle core and anti-microbial inner bore — delivers leak-proof socket-fusion joints, zero internal scaling and very low thermal conductivity (0.23 W/mK). Manufactured per IS 15801:2008 with ISO 9001 certification, WRAS-approved material and in-house R&D testing. ITT specifies the right PN rating, supports layout planning and commissions the network safely.

Key benefits of PPR-C

Eight engineering advantages that make SHK PPR-C a cost-effective alternative to metal and CPVC pipework — from the SHK product catalogue.

PPR-C does not rust, scale or corrode internally. Unlike MS/GI pipework, there is no particle contamination reaching pneumatic tools, valves or potable water points — maintaining clean air and water delivery over the full service life.

Heat-fusion welding at 260°C creates a homogeneous bond between pipe and fitting — no threaded leakage points, no solvent adhesive joints. Negligible leakage risk compared with GI threading or CPVC solvent welding.

SHK PPR-C is rated for up to 50 years of service versus 3–5 years for MS pipes and 15–20 years for CPVC. Maintenance cost remains negligible for 15–20 years under normal operating conditions.

Thermal conductivity of 0.23 W/mK (versus 45 W/mK for MS) means negligible heat loss on hot-water lines and reduced insulation thickness on chilled-water supply — typically half to one-third that required for metal pipe.

Anti-microbial inner layer with friction factor of approximately 1.5 ft/100 ft (versus 4 ft/100 ft for CPVC and very high friction in corroded MS). Helps maintain stable pressure to distant machine drops and pneumatic tools.

Very light sections reduce transport cost by up to 3× versus metal pipe. Socket-fusion jointing is faster than MS welding or GI cut-and-thread work — lowering both CAPEX and installation labour.

Operating range from −8°C to 95°C covers hot/cold water, chilled water, solar heaters, cooling towers and many process applications. Glass-fibre reinforced Thermo grade reduces thermal expansion on long runs.

CFTRI-approved material with anti-microbial inner layer prevents bacteria and algae growth. WRAS-approved for potable water. Suitable for RO drinking water plants, pharmaceutical lines and clean liquid food supply.

Frequently asked questions

Yes — SHK Pneumato flame-retardant PPR-C is specifically designed for compressed air. Use PN16 (SDR 7.4) grade, size correctly using CFM vs pipe diameter charts, and follow support spacing guidelines. ITT reviews pressure, temperature and oil compatibility before specifying.

SHK Aqua is for hot/cold water and clean fluid supply with anti-microbial inner layer and green colour coding. SHK Pneumato is flame-retardant (UL 94) and optimised for compressed air with blue colour coding. ITT selects the correct line based on your application.

PPR pipes are joined by socket heat fusion at 260°C — the pipe and fitting are heated and pressed together to form a homogeneous, leak-proof bond. No threading, welding or adhesive is needed. Proper fusion temperature, hold time and cooling time are critical for joint integrity.

PN10 (SDR 11) suits general utility lines. PN16 (SDR 7.4) is typical for compressed air. PN20 (SDR 6) handles higher pressure. Allowable working pressure reduces with temperature — refer to DIN 8077 derating tables. ITT selects the correct PN rating based on your operating conditions.

PPR is cost-effective for workshops, utilities and low-to-medium pressure air/water lines where corrosion resistance and fast installation matter. Modular aluminium (ShiftAir) suits higher-pressure industrial air networks needing mechanical fittings and easier future modification. ITT can recommend the right system after a site survey.

Use the SHK CFM vs pipe diameter vs pipe length selection chart in the catalogue. For example, 50 CFM over 500 ft typically needs 1½” pipe, while 200 CFM over 1000 ft needs 3″ pipe. ITT performs this sizing during site survey to avoid excessive pressure drop.
