Frequently asked questions

Not always. Many modern valves and cylinders are pre-lubricated at factory and run on dry, filtered air. Lubricators are recommended for air tools, high-speed cylinders and legacy equipment that expects an oil mist. ITT reviews your downstream components before specifying FRL configuration.

General industrial circuits typically use 40 µm particulate filtration. Coalescing filters (0.01 µm) suit paint, packaging and instrumentation air. Regulators should be sized for peak flow, not average demand, to avoid pressure droop under load.

Bore selection depends on required force, available pressure and stroke speed. At 6 bar, a 50 mm bore cylinder delivers roughly 1.2 kN theoretical force — allow margin for friction and pressure variation. ITT can calculate bore and valve Cv for clamping, lifting and indexing applications.

Push-fit fittings suit machine-side tubing where frequent disconnects and tight spaces are common — fast to install with reliable seals when tube is cut square and inserted fully. Threaded fittings suit higher-vibration areas or where metal pipe transitions are needed. ITT often specifies push-fit for drops and threaded at main headers.
